MGM CityCenter
Bringing unrivaled, personalized experience to every guest.
MGM CityCenter Las Vegas, opening in late 2009, is an unprecedented urban metropolis on 67 acres on the Las Vegas Strip. The development features ARIA, a stunning 4,004-room gaming resort; Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas; Vdara Hotel & Spa; Veer Towers; and The Harmon Hotel.
The Control4 Solution
MGM CityCenter collaborated with Control4 Corporation to develop an unprecedented level of personalized automation for every guestroom, a luxury previously only available in high-end custom homes and select resort suites. Using Control4 Suite Systems, coupled with one gigabit of bandwidth networked to every room, the hotel provides an intricately choreographed, personalized experience from the moment guests enter their rooms.
Personalized Guest Experience.
When guests open the door to their rooms, they will be greeted with an automated welcome experience: the lights will gradually come on, the drapes will open to spectacular views of the city or mountains, and the TV will turn on to display a list of automated controls. Using one simple remote, guests can easily set the systems in their rooms to their personal preferences, including:
• Lighting levels
• Room temperature
• Television/video systems
• Music
• Wake-up calls
• Drapes
• Service requests
All settings will be saved and incorporated every time a guest is in the room—and for future visits. Having all guestroom devices incorporated into one platform will make it easy to provide “scenes” that modify all settings at once. For example, each room features a “good night” button next to the bed which turns off the lights, TV and/or music; closes the drapes; and turns on the privacy notification for the room. Similarly, guests can select a “wake-up” scene where lights and music gradually come on, the temperature comes up, and the drapes open for a more soothing wake-up experience.
One gigabit of fiber bandwidth in each guest room delivers unrivaled Wi-Fi connectivity with both the Internet and hotel operations. Taking connectivity one step further, each room also has a 42-inch LCD HDTV, which can be connected to a laptop and used as a big-screen monitor, or connected to game consoles, cameras and MP3 players. It also serves as a convenient communications center, displaying messages about new voicemails, package receipts and more.
Energy Savings
CityCenter’s in-room technology offers an unobtrusive and easy way to conserve precious resources such as energy and water. This not only benefits the environment, but the hotel’s bottom line as well. Furthermore, the wireless nature of the Control4 system nearly eliminates the need for costly conduit and wiring in traditional construction—saving money in construction costs and helping the environment by consuming fewer construction materials.
At the guestroom level, Control4 Suite System can be programmed to automatically shut down a room when it is unoccupied, turning down or off the heating/cooling system, televisions, lights and any appliances. In addition, green settings on the remote control allow guests to voluntarily “green their stay,” selecting their preferences for light level, room temperature and the frequency of linen changes. According to Bobby Baldwin of MGM CityCenter, the Control4 technology gave them innovation points towards their LEED Certification.
Montage Beverly Hills
Where modern-day indulgence meets sustainability.
Montage Beverly Hills, “where modern-day indulgence meets sustainability,” is a beautiful nine-story hotel in Beverly Hills’ legendary Golden Triangle. The hotel, designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival Style, features more than 200 guest rooms, a 5,000-square foot ballroom, 20,000 square-foot spa, and a 70-person rooftop Conservatory Dining Room.
The Control4 Solution
From the moment you set foot in the Montage Beverly Hills, you’re treated with the utmost in personalized service. And thanks to Control4 Suite Systems, that level of service easily coexists with sustainability. Montage Beverly Hills looked to Control4 to provide an unforgettable, personalized guest experience that complemented their sustainability effort. Being responsible to the environment was very important to hotel developers, but absolutely nothing could be compromised in the way of comfort, quality or luxury.
An individualized experience for every guest.
The Montage Beverly Hills worked closely with Control4 to create the utmost in personalized guest service. They often receive special requests such as having the temperature set at a certain level or specific music playing when a guest arrives. Control4 Suite Systems allows them to do this for the guest, or let the guests easily program it themselves—without needing any instructions.
With the installation of almost 4,000 Zigbee Pro nodes throughout the hotel, the Montage Beverly Hills is an excellent example of the power and scalability of Control4 solutions.
Achieving sustainability.
Montage Beverly Hills is registered with the U.S.G.B.C. for LEED certification. Control4 technology helped them achieve this by providing a process for energy modeling load reduction, and by providing a control system for their HVAC and lighting systems. Control4 enables the hotel to put rooms into a “vacant” mode when guests leave, saving both energy and money. It also allows guests to determine how green their stay will be by programming the in-room remote to dim the lights or control the temperature to save energy. The hotel has achieved an overall building efficiency 14% greater than the California Building Code requires.
Says Mark Slymen, Director of Sustainability for the Montage Beverly Hills, “Control4 allows for a process load reduction that assists in gaining LEED certification. It also works toward the LEED credit for controllability of a system.”
Rosewood Sand Hill

Personalized Guest Experience through Effortless entertainment

Using a single, handheld Control4 remote, guests can easily select TV stations, the integrated Tangerine Global for IPTV Video-on-Demand content, music, as well as lights in the hotel’s 125 rooms. And, guest can select the perfect wake-up scenario, waking to their favorite music or TV station, while the lights slowly come up over a 15-minute period.
Better for the environment
Control4® Suite Systems provides the Rosewood Sand Hill with a tool that allows them to automatically conserve energy, resulting in an immediate and positive impact on their bottom line. Each guest room in the Rosewood Sand Hill features smart lighting, which can automatically turn off all lights in the room upon guest checkout. When a guest checks into a room, the lights can automatically go on, so the room is ready and welcoming for the new guest. In addition, hotel staff can set a maximum lighting threshold for guestrooms, dramatically reducing energy consumption without guests even noticing.
Guests can also enjoy automated lighting during their stay. Even lamps and other plug-in devices in the room can be automated and controlled from the comfort of a bed using the handheld remote.
Another way guests can make their stay more environmentally friendly is through the Green feature on the remote keypad. This allows them to turn-off linen and towel service, create personalized lighting setbacks, or choose the hotel’s preferred Green setting. In addition, a master suite on/off switch near the guestroom door allows guests or housekeeping to quickly push a button to automatically turn off all lights when they leave.
Control4® Suite Systems allows the Rosewood Sand Hill to provide the utmost in luxury service, while doing what is right for the environment.

An unrivaled, personalized guest experience
Hotel guests can customize the settings to create their own personalized environments for their stay. This includes controlling the music, lights, temperature, draperies and television settings. It can also include their favorite music or TV station, and automatically opening draperies to let natural light into the room. Guests can also set privacy settings, and control the lighting, temperature, drapes, music and the TV/video content from the comfort of their beds.
Sustainability
A valuable component of Control4 Suite Systems is the ability to conserve energy. Trump SoHo New York guests can set their own room preferences using the Green feature button. This allows them to customize their housekeeping services by turning on or off linen and towel service, creating their own personalized temperature setbacks, or choosing the hotel’s preferred Green setting. In addition, a master suite on/off switch located near the door gives the guest or housekeeping the option to “shut down” the room when unoccupied.
